Of School and Reality Marbles

November 23, 2014 Leave a comment

Another bit of my old notes translated and dumped in Unsorted (back in 2011 I used to type or write down the text of the game, to reference later). It’s just some talk about Reality Marbles that TM fans probably already know, plus the initial Master selection.

EDIT: Also translated the first Q&A with Archer from Round 1. You can view it at the bottom of his profile page.

Anyway, rough work priority is as follows:

Right now I think I want to get the rest of the Servant profiles translated at the very least, and possibly write up major character biographies like Rin, Rani, Twice, etc. Casko will probably be the last to get done since I haven’t even started that playthrough.

In the meantime, I’ve finally started CCC. Not sure if I am going to continue with the same gender-Servant combos or just go for the Gold first.

Fate/hollow ataraxia English patch is out!

On the off chance that I have followers here that aren’t elsewhere like Twitter, I want to bring your attention to a side project I’ve been contributing to with the folks over at Beast’s LairFate/hollow ataraxia.

It’s the less serious but more fun sequel to flagship title Fate/stay night, and the fan translation has been going on-again/off-again for about ten years. But after much effort, it’s finally finished. We hope you enjoy it.

Praetor!

November 12, 2014 1 comment

About to transcribe and translate another chunk of text to Unsorted. Probably up in the next hour.

Idle thoughts during translation:

By now we all know that Red Saber commonly addresses the player character as “奏者” with ruby text Master. And less commonly, just “Master”. Aksys translated 奏者 as “Praetor” because there was no English equivalent that communicated “Master” and “actor” at the same time and we don’t use ruby text in English. And, if one doesn’t know any better, Praetor sounds appropriately authoritative and exotic. But it doesn’t really make sense.

A praetor was an ancient Roman title granted to 1) military field commanders and 2) elected magistrates. Both of which are pretty far below Nero’s position of Emperor, but maybe we can let that slide since the player is both a field commander of sorts and an appointed leader. Still, it completely lacks the “actor/player” dimension, which strongly alludes to Nero’s love of the arts.

So I was thinking, if we ignored the authority part, I personally think “Thespian” or “Thesp” would work.

I would’ve liked to have been part of that conversation at Aksys.

Unsorted Translations added

November 10, 2014 Leave a comment

Added a new page for translated notes that I haven’t integrated into the rest of the site yet.

Right now it’s a conversation with Leo Harway about his family, and another one with Rin regarding her opinions on the war.

I think I will round out all of the Servant profiles eventually, and continue to translate other bits I find interesting.

It’s ALIVE!

Sort of. Maybe? First update in three years! Will I keep updating it? Who knows.

Going through my old notes I had the contents of the conversations you can have with Leo during Round 4 about the Holy Grail. I’ve started translating them and posting them under the new Holy Grail page.

Last but not least, I want to give a shout-out to the Fate/EXTRA CCC translation effort currently being hosted at Xeno Translations. Please give them your love and support – fan translations are a labor of love and TYPE-MOON games in particular are particularly long and onerous to translate.

Slow and steady…

I’m replaying some of the early portions of the game to catch bits of lore-related info that I missed. To this end, I’m making constant edits to the People and Concepts pages.

Also, despite having this game since Japanese launch, I was not aware until today that there is additional dialogue if you choose not to Retry an elimination duel. Boy, I feel pretty dumb.

Rebooting. General updates.

November 5, 2011 Leave a comment

Finally resuming work on this site. First order of things is to edit the general term lists, most of which were written before release.

Now that an official localization is out, I will need to look at the translation and compare it to the original text. A lot of the Nasuverse stuff has been lost in translation because of character limits and the complexity of ruby text, which Nasu LOVES to use. This process will take a while. Otherwise I’ll paraphrase certain passages, like Servant character backgrounds.

  • People page updated – more general info, but fewer spoilers.
  • Concepts page updated – mostly shuffling terms around. I want to get them into a more logical reading order.
  • Places page updated

Servant character sheets are still in progress. I’ve got a lot of it written down, but need to organize and edit the info. Player Servants will also require multiple playthroughs, which I am working on. Just added the beginnings of Archer last night.

I’m debating whether to give Masters their own pages. I don’t want too many spoilers in the general People page, but there is a lot to be said. It would clutter up the menu interface, though. Hmm…
